Following its acclaimed sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre, prepare to welcome The Unfriend to the West End for a strictly limited run at the Criterion Theatre.
This riotous dark comedy from writer Steven Moffat and director Mark Gatiss, the award-winning team behind BBC’s Sherlock, stars an uproarious cast including Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9), Amanda Abbington (Sherlock) and Frances Barber (Silk).
While on holiday Peter and Debbie befriend Elsa: a lusty, Trumploving widow from Denver, USA. She’s less than woke but kind of wonderful. They agree to stay in touch - because no one ever really does, do they? When Elsa invites herself to stay a few months later, they decide to look her up online. Too late, they learn the truth about Elsa Jean Krakowski. Deadly danger has just boarded a flight to London! What began as a casual holiday friendship is now a threat to the lives of their children. Peter and Debbie now face the ultimate challenge of the modern world - how do you protect all that you love from mortal peril without seeming a bit impolite? Because guess who’s coming… to MURDER.

Enjoyed this play, actors were amazing. The only reason I gave 4 stars is we were sitting only 3 rows back and found Francis Barber character extremely loud!!!

Never disappointed by Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss, with Steven Moffat involved what can possibly go wrong….! Faultless acting by great cast. Loved it and so did my 15 year old daughter who is a new LOG fan

Unfunny and dated

Very disappointing - had expected so much more from the Gatiss and Moffat duo - a dull late 1970’s/80’s sitcom

A very British sitcom
29 January 2023
A solid 4/5 light comedy deftly written by Moffat and Gatiss, expertly brought to life by Shearsmith and the irrepressible Francis Barber. It’s a fun comment on British manners and life with teenagers and nosy neighbours! It would be a 5/5 but ‘toilet humour’ is not my thing although the audience found it hilarious.

Outstanding across the board...

Writing that you can relate to and still find hilarious. Performances that blew the audience away (the kids get a special mention, holding their own amongst an outlandishly talented cast). Just go.

Typically tongue in cheek script from Steven Moffat and carried off brilliantly by the cast!

My daughter (15) and I laughed so much - the acting was superb and the timing was sublime! Farcical at times, but so much more than that-very clever writing, the whole experience was fabulous!
