  • Moved me to tears

    5 August 2022

I wanted to surprise my wife on our 15th Wedding anniversary, I booked 3 tickets so we could bring our 8year old daughter with us. My wife and daughter haven’t been to a theatre show before so they were quite apprehensive initially. Arriving at the theatre the greeting was warm and welcoming, we were directed to our seats and off we went. B20-22, my wife’s voice started to tremble when she saw how close we were to the stage, that set the tone for the rest of the evening. The lights dimmed and the music started, the next 2.5 hours went by in a flash, costume changes, wild props (pun intended) puppetry and dramatic mood lighting. The characters though! Those stunning individuals and their voices, the ensemble and the harmonies. Within minutes I was moved to tears, such creativity in the beginning with flags, animals, drawing the audience into the Lion King world, and then Rafiki started to sing, what a voice, so bright and clear but also soulful and awe inspiring, that’s what pushed me over the edge. Every single performer gave their all, faultless from start to finish, but the moments where Rafiki graced that well trodden stage, my my, joyful and fun, playful and engaging. Each and every cast member were proud to be there, and it showed with every step, jump, word, solo and glance. Tye dedication to the moment and to the performance was as I say, faultless. When final curtain fell, there was nothing left to do but stand and applaud such a beautiful moment we, as the audience had shared, having heard so many marvellous reviews of this truly wonderful show, a standing ovation just didn’t seem to do the performance any justice at all, but at the same time that was all we as new Lion King ambassadors could give back. Thank you all for making me cry, thank you for making our anniversary such a special occasion, thank you all for letting me see sheer joy in the faces of my wife and daughter.
